Australians are the happiest in the world, as per a survey done by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). For the same they have taken into consideration a combination of factors like income, education and health and a total of 34 nations were studied on these parameters.
On the list of top 10 nations were Canada, Sweden, New Zealand, Norway, Denmark, the United States, Switzerland, Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Meanwhile, the report claimed that one in every five Australian was also suffering from some or the other kind of mental illness and there were more than 30,000 youths who were moving around without homes.
When asked as to what is it that was making the Australians so happy even when there were troubles, Prime Minister Julia Gillard said that while the world sees a high level of economic well being, it is tough for the nationals as the cost of living is pretty high.
As per the index prepared by OECD, some 75 per cent of Australians were satisfied with their lives and it was much above the OECD average of 59 per cent.
