Kenya and Somalia to Get More Humanitarian Aid from Sweden

Sweden has increased the humanitarian funding to Kenya and other countries with Ksh. 2.9 billion. The Sweden's total humanitarian aid to Kenya would be Ksh. 1.9 billion and to Somalia would be Ksh. 5 billion, in 2011.

Sweden's humanitarian aid to the Horn of Africa will be Ksh. 10 billion, in total this year. Therefore, the country will enlist itself among top five humanitarian donors to the region.

Sweden's Ambassador to Kenya, H. E. Mrs. Ann Dismorr stated that Kenya’s situation was quite upsetting and the famine can spread to Somalia as well in a few months, therefore Sweden will help in reducing the humanitarian situation in the Horn of Africa.

Alike Kenya, Somalia will also be aided by Sweden. The support will be done with the help of UNICEF and international non-governmental organizations.

This humanitarian aid will help the countries in basic needs such as health, food, water, sanitation and protection of children. Around 3.5 million people have been affected by the famine, in Kenya.

Meanwhile, European Union has also increased its humanitarian aid by almost two folds, making it to be 3.6 billion shillings.

This evening even Venezuela will be announcing its relief aid for the affected countries.
