Simon Gerrans Joins GreenEdge Cycling Team

Simon Gerrans, the first Australian to win cycling's Grand Tour that included the Tours of Italy, France and Spain, has joined the new Australian GreenEDGE cycling team.

Stuart O'Grady, Jack Bobridge and Cameron Meyer are already a part of the newly formed Australian team chasing a proTour license in 2012.

Gerrans said, "This might be a new team on paper but it has been 20-years in the making by people like Shayne Bannan and I know the amount of preparation he does to get things right''.

Joining GreenEDGE was like returning to home as people like Shayne and Gerry Ryan have been involved. These people have been a big part of my career for more than a decade, Gerrans said.

GreenEDGE General Manager Shayne Bannan stated that Gerrans has been famous for winning major tours and his presence in the team will play an important role.

The 31-year-old has been in the prime of his career with a proven ability to win on the big stage and will prove a good example for the younger guys.

Gerrans has recently won the Tour of Denmark and will be a part of an Australian tour. However, he will not be involved in the Tour of Spain which starts on Saturday.
