Norway’s unemployment rate stood at 4.6% in July, unchanged from the revised June figure, according to the latest Labour Force Survey (AKU) from Statistics Norway (SSB).

The jobless rate has risen 0.5 percentage points since the start of the year, a development largely attributed to more people entering the labor force. Many who were previously outside the job market are now actively seeking employment, SSB noted.

“The recent increase in unemployment is linked to a higher labor supply, both among youth and adults who had previously been inactive. Immigration from Ukraine is one factor behind the trend,” said Tonje Køber, head of division at SSB.

Despite the uptick, July’s reading marked a slight correction from June’s unusually high survey figure. Analysts caution that monthly numbers can fluctuate, but the broader trend shows a growing workforce putting pressure on the Norwegian labor market.
