China staged a major military parade in Beijing on Wednesday morning, bringing together senior political leaders and foreign guests in a display of military strength and diplomatic outreach, according to Xinhua News Agency.
President Xi Jinping inspected the troops and in his remarks stressed China’s commitment to defense modernization. The parade included formations from across the People’s Liberation Army and featured a wide range of equipment, including air defence missiles, anti-ship missiles, hypersonic missiles, intercontinental ballistic missiles, aerial drones, torpedoes, robot dogs and new armored assault vehicles.
Several authoritarian leaders, including Russia’s Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, attended the parade as guests of honor. Their presence underscored Beijing’s efforts to deepen ties with countries often at odds with the West.
The gathering did not go unnoticed in Washington. Former U.S. President Donald Trump lashed out on social media late Tuesday night as television footage aired of Xi hosting Putin and Kim. “Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America,” Trump wrote in a message addressed to Xi.
Trump’s outburst reflects how the Beijing parade, intended to showcase China’s military modernization and global partnerships, has also fueled political tensions abroad.
