Swedish technology group Hexagon has agreed to sell its Design & Engineering business unit to U.S.-based Cadence Design Systems for €2.7 billion, the company announced on Friday.
According to Hexagon, the divestment is part of its strategy to sharpen focus on core areas such as digital reality solutions, autonomous technologies, and smart manufacturing. The deal will transfer Hexagon’s design and engineering software portfolio, including tools widely used in industries such as automotive and aerospace.
President and CEO Paolo Guglielmini said the transaction will enable Hexagon to allocate resources to faster-growing segments. “This divestment strengthens our strategic direction and enhances our ability to accelerate investments in areas with the greatest long-term potential,” he stated.
Cadence, a global leader in electronic design automation, said the acquisition will expand its capabilities in multiphysics system design and broaden its customer base across Europe and Asia.
The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
