Finnish nuclear power producer Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) has made history by issuing a €500 million green bond under the EU Green Bond Standard – the first of its kind by a Finnish nuclear operator. The landmark transaction highlights nuclear power’s growing role in Europe’s sustainable finance market.
TVO said the proceeds will finance projects that support low-carbon electricity production, fully aligned with the EU’s taxonomy that now recognizes nuclear as part of the green transition. Investor appetite was strong, underscoring confidence in nuclear’s place within Europe’s clean energy mix.
“This is a significant milestone for both TVO and Finland’s role in sustainable investment,” said CEO Marjo Mustonen. “It proves that nuclear energy is not only reliable and safe, but also an essential part of the green transition.”
The bond underlines Finland’s attractiveness as a hub for sustainable capital and cements TVO’s position as a pioneer in combining nuclear energy with green finance.
