The Labour Party (Arbeiderpartiet, Ap) has emerged as the clear winner of Norway’s 2025 parliamentary election, cementing its role as the country’s largest political force.

According to official results, Labour secured 28.2 percent of the vote, translating into 53 seats in the Storting. The Progress Party (FrP) followed with 23.9 percent and 48 seats, marking its strongest result ever. The Conservative Party (Høyre), once dominant, fell sharply to just 14.6 percent and 24 seats.

Other parties saw mixed fortunes: the Socialist Left Party (SV) strengthened its position with 9.6 percent (17 seats), while the Centre Party (Sp) slumped to 7.8 percent (14 seats) after its strong 2021 performance. The Red Party (Rødt) achieved 5.6 percent (10 seats), and the Green Party (MDG) remained at 4.4 percent (8 seats).

With these results, the red-green bloc — consisting of Labour, SV, Rødt, MDG and the Centre Party — commands between 87 and 89 seats, securing a working majority in the 169-seat parliament.

Voter turnout stood at just under 76 percent, slightly lower than in the previous election, but still high by international standards.

The outcome confirms Jonas Gahr Støre’s Labour as the anchor of Norwegian politics, while underscoring the rise of the Progress Party as a formidable opposition force. Coalition negotiations within the red-green bloc are now expected to shape Norway’s political course on energy, fiscal policy, and climate transition for the coming years.
