Polestar has taken the stage at the Munich Auto Show with a new flagship electric sedan, designed in Europe but built in China, that the Swedish brand clearly positions as a rival to Porsche’s Taycan. The debut marks one of Polestar’s boldest moves yet, unveiling its most advanced performance EV on German soil — right in the backyard of its strongest competitors.

The new model combines sharp, aerodynamic styling with Polestar’s minimalist Scandinavian interior, crafted from sustainable and recycled materials. Inside, the Google-based infotainment system anchors a cabin built to appeal to premium buyers who value both design and technology.

But it is under the skin where Polestar is aiming to make headlines. The car features a massive 107 kWh usable battery, delivering an impressive 620 kilometers of WLTP range. Thanks to 800-volt architecture, it supports ultra-fast DC charging up to 350 kW, allowing a 10–80 percent top-up in just around 20 minutes. With dual motors producing up to 650 horsepower, the sedan sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h.

Executives underlined that production in China is not just about cost, but about scale and speed. The country’s advanced EV supply chain allows Polestar to bring high-performance technology to market quickly, while keeping pricing competitive against established European luxury marques.

By unveiling this model in Munich, Polestar is sending a deliberate message: it intends to compete head-to-head with Porsche in the high-performance EV segment. Analysts note that while the Taycan enjoys brand heritage and loyal customers, Polestar’s blend of range, power and Scandinavian design gives it a real chance to disrupt the category.

The launch underscores the shift in the luxury EV market, where new challengers from Scandinavia — backed by global manufacturing muscle — are taking aim at the very heart of Germany’s automotive establishment.
