Passenger numbers at Sweden’s airports continued to climb in August, reflecting strong demand for both international and domestic travel, according to new figures from airport operator Swedavia.

Swedavia’s ten airports handled a total of 3.7 million passengers in August, an increase of 7 percent compared with the same month last year. Of these, 2.6 million were international travelers, while just over 1.1 million flew domestically.

The country’s largest airport, Stockholm Arlanda, accounted for the majority of traffic with nearly 2.5 million passengers. Göteborg Landvetter followed with more than 600,000 passengers, showing continued growth in international routes.

In the year to date, Swedavia’s airports have served 26.2 million passengers, an increase of 8 percent over the same period in 2024. The operator said demand has been driven especially by holiday travel to southern Europe as well as steady growth in intercontinental routes.

Swedavia noted that traffic levels are now approaching pre-pandemic volumes, though business travel has not yet fully recovered. The company added that capacity expansion at Arlanda and continued investments in sustainability will be key to handling long-term growth.
