Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), through its CI Advanced Bioenergy Fund I, has announced an investment in what will become Finland’s largest biogas plant, located in Kurikka, South Ostrobothnia.

According to CIP, the facility will be developed together with Finnish company Jepuan Biokaasu Oy and is expected to produce approximately 125 gigawatt-hours of liquefied biogas annually. That output corresponds to the yearly fuel consumption of around 250 heavy trucks and will make the Kurikka site the single largest biogas production facility in Finland.

The plant is set to play a central role in advancing Finland’s renewable energy targets and supporting the decarbonisation of heavy transport. CIP noted that liquefied biogas is particularly well suited to replace fossil fuels in logistics and long-haul trucking, where electrification faces greater barriers.

CIP partner and fund head Thomas Dalsgaard said the project illustrates the fund’s strategy of backing large-scale bioenergy initiatives across Europe. The company added that construction is expected to begin in 2026, with operations starting in 2028.
