Microsoft has signed a new agreement with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence and cloud technologies across federal agencies — a deal the company says could generate more than 3 billion dollars in taxpayer savings during the first year.

Chief Executive Satya Nadella hailed the announcement as the latest milestone in a partnership with the U.S. Government that spans more than four decades. “From modernizing IT infrastructure to advancing cybersecurity, our partnership has always been rooted in trust, innovation, and shared purpose,” Nadella wrote in a company statement.

Under the agreement, Microsoft will provide agencies with access to its Microsoft 365 Copilot AI tools at no cost, alongside expanded use of Azure cloud, Dynamics 365, and the company’s security platforms. The aim is to help public servants modernize systems, improve citizen services, and strengthen national security through enhanced digital resilience.

The deal underscores how major technology providers are moving deeper into the government sector, where AI is increasingly viewed as essential for efficiency, compliance, and mission delivery. Microsoft emphasized that all offerings are backed by its security and compliance certifications, ensuring that sensitive federal operations meet the highest standards.

By combining AI innovation with cost savings, the agreement signals both the scale of U.S. government ambitions in digital transformation and Microsoft’s determination to remain at the core of that effort.
