Finland’s industrial turnover fell sharply in July, dropping 5.7 percent from a year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.

The decline was broad-based across several key industries. Electrical and electronics manufacturing saw the steepest fall, down 14.3 percent year-on-year, while turnover in the forest industry contracted by 11.7 percent. Metal and chemical industries also weakened, with turnover declining by 7.1 and 6.1 percent respectively.

Not all sectors were negative. Mining and quarrying turnover increased by 13.6 percent compared with July 2024, while food industry turnover rose 5.2 percent and textiles gained 1.9 percent. Exports showed the biggest swings: mining export turnover surged 48.2 percent, while electronics exports fell 18.7 percent and metal exports declined 11.1 percent.

On the domestic side, electronics turnover grew 18.9 percent, offset by sharp drops in forest and mining industries. Seasonally adjusted, industrial turnover fell 3.6 percent from June, underlining a fragile trend after modest gains earlier in the summer.

While markets have been waiting eagerly for signs of a turnaround in the forest industry, the latest data offered no relief. The sector remains under significant pressure, reflecting weak global demand and continued structural headwinds.
