The United Kingdom is in advanced talks to build warships for Denmark and Sweden, according to a report by the Financial Times on Monday. The discussions highlight Britain’s expanding role as a naval supplier in Northern Europe at a time of rising regional security demands.

The news follows an announcement by the Norwegian government in late August that it will acquire new frigates from the UK. Oslo confirmed that the deal will strengthen the Norwegian Navy’s operational capability and deepen defence ties with Britain. “Norway and the United Kingdom have a long and close security partnership, and this agreement builds on that tradition,” the Ministry of Defence said in a statement (Government of Norway, 30 August 2025).

Taken together, the developments suggest a broader strategic alignment in Northern Europe, with London positioning itself as a key partner in naval modernization across the Nordic region. As Denmark, Sweden and Norway all seek to bolster maritime security in the face of geopolitical tensions, British shipbuilding capacity is emerging as an anchor for regional cooperation.
